The Warrior Volleyball Varsity Team entered the Section 7 Play-offs on Monday, Oct. 21, at home. The Warriors faced the Mesabi East High School Giants in a short-lived match. The Blue and Gold seemed to be a whole different team than we’ve been seeing of late. The local gals had a fairly easy time putting down the Giants!!

In one of the best games the Warriors played this year they finished off the Giants from Mesabi East quickly, 25-17!

The Warriors needed little effort to defeat the Giants in game two, 25-13.

The third game seemed to be easy for the Warriors, 25-22, for the game and match.

Some stats from this match were as follows: senior Kelsey Fairbanks, 7 Ace Serves, 10 Kills; junior setter Amelia Daigle, 32 Set Assists; junior Sophie Rajala, 12 Kills, 2 Ace Blocks; junior Tiffany Amy, 7 Kills, 2 Ace Serves; sophomore Bri Williams, 4 Kills; junior Carly Onraet, 6 Kills, 3 Ace Serves.

With this win at home, the Warriors advanced to the next round of the tournament by traveling to Babbitt on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The Babbitt Knights faced down the Warriors in three games to end the 2013 season for the Blue and Gold.

Our Warrior gals had a full season of volleyball, with ups and downs, and lots of memories for the coaches, team members and fans. We will regret not seeing this year’s seniors next year–the loss of Kelsey Fairbanks and Tayler Goggleye will be felt— but we’ll have the remainder of the underclassmen coming up in the future carrying on the Blue and Gold banner for the Warriors.

The Sectional Play-offs continue at the Tournament Site at Deer River on Wednesday, Oct. 30, with the A and AA semi-final matches played at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and the A and AA finals also played in Deer River, at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 2.
