Summer Break? I don’t think so!

When the school year wraps up, I am often asked if anything goes on around schools in the summer or if I work in the summers. The answer is a resounding “yes” to both!

This summer we are holding three sessions of Learning Academy – a chance for children to work on their math and reading skills over the summer. Teachers provide different teaching strategies and work in small groups with students. Students learn new ways to approach problems and get ready for the next school year. In the afternoon we hold Camp Discovery, which is all about fun. Children play lacrosse, do crafts, and explore.

We are also taking part in the Summer Food Program again this year. This program enables us to serve a free lunch to any child 18 and under and a reasonably priced lunch to any adult. We’ve served over 10,000 meals over the last few years. If you would like more information about the Summer Food Program, stop by the district office or check out our website: www.isd317.org
