Hastings home destroyed by fire in Effie

The home of Shane and Mollie Hastings was destroyed by fire on Tuesday, June 16. The home, which is located east of Effie on Highway 1, was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene. Along with the Bigfork Fire Department, Balsam and Bearville Fire Departments also responded to the scene. No one was in the home when the blaze started and there were no injuries reported. The family has a total of eight children with six still living at home. An account has been established to accept donations for the family.  Anyone wishing to donate may drop them off at the First State Bank of Bigfork or mail to Hastings Family Benefit Fund, c/o First State Bank of Bigfork, PO Box 257 Bigfork, MN  56628. Bigfork Firefighters work to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters were forced to fight the blaze from the exterior due to the instability of the roof.
