Councilman says ‘vote yes’

Dear Editor,

At the August 10, 2015 Deer River City Council meeting the council chose not to endorse Independent School District 317’s referendum. My knowledge of the referendum was not as complete as I wanted. So, I sought out a ‘Yes’ committee member and was invited to a committee meeting, which I attended. The following evening I attended the Deer River Township Board meeting where the ‘Yes’ committee was making a presentation. After asking many questions to which I received complete and respectful answers, I have changed my mind. Monday morning I voted yes at the Deer River High School.

This referendum will fulfill seven of the 11 projects that were identified as community challenges at the Listening Session at the December 22, 2014 City Council meeting. Several city residents and the City Council participated in this session. Eleven challenges to the community were pointed out at the session by those at the meeting.
