On September 8, 2015, the Deer River community stepped up in amazing fashion to support students, staff, and our community. The referendum passed that day will enhance programs and support for students during and after school, improve building efficiency, create early childhood opportunities, and generate new and better partnerships with our community. Here are the numbers:
Total voters: 1,112
Total Yes: 753 (68%)
Total No: 359 (32%)
The voter turnout and the overwhelming support was a real boost coming into the school year. There is a renewed energy among students and staff that is palpable when you spend time in the buildings. A vote with such a lopsided result sends a clear message – the community supports and believes in staff, students and our community.
Phase 1 of the project is underway, with excavation, concrete, and other site work moving along well. Soon masonry and steel will be going up, giving shape to the part of the building that will house new Kindergarten classrooms, special education classrooms, and the media center next year. You can keep up with building progress by going to the district website at www.isd317.org and clicking on the “2015 Building Project” item on the right side of the menu bar.The content you are trying to access is only available to members.
