The Bible Says …

Is anger an addiction?

by Marvine Scott

The Bible says “Stop being angry, put aside rage, and don’t be upset – it leads to evil” Psalm 37:8. Do we ever revel in anger? “NO!” you might exclaim: “Never.” Think about it. If someone wrongfully hurts us or does something to make us angry, what is our reaction? Do we imagine ‘he said’ ‘she said’ ‘I said’ etc until we are angrier than ever? Do we indulge for a while before we let the anger go?

When I was reading this Scripture and meditating on it, I was impressed that God intently urges us not to let ourselves get upset. Why? Because God says it leads to evil. Have we considered the spiral effect of anger? We start by getting a little upset. We mutter and grumble and sizzle inside with frustration until it is anger.

OUR NEED
Author Unknown
We mutter and sputter,
We fume and we spurt;
We mumble and grumble,
Our feelings get hurt;
We can’t understand,
Our vision grows dim;
When all we need is,
A moment with HIM!
