Honoring those who have served

The Deer River area Memorial Day Services on May 29 began with the service held at the Essentia Health-Deer River Homestead Rehabilitation and Living Center. Area residents gathered at the Essentia Health-Deer River Homestead Living & Rehabilitation Center on the morning of May 29 to pay tribute and honor the living and deceased veterans during the Memorial Day Services.

Military Honors for this service and the following ones at the area cemeteries and at Winnie Dam were provided by the Deer River Veterans of American Legion Post 122 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2720.

Dave Daigle, retired Chief Master Sergeant of the U.S. Air Force, served as the emcee. The speaker was Steve Geving, retired Master Sergeant, U.S. Air Force, who has also been the City of Deer River’s mayor for the past five years. Conducting the services was Paster Lee Pederson, who is a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Also taking part in this and the other ceremonies to honor the military veterans were Dianne Sundquist, Lynn Tibbetts and Caryl Hawes of the American Legion Post 122 Auxiliary. Escorting this group to the various cemeteries and to Winnie Dam were the Deer River Chapter I American Legion Riders.The content you are trying to access is only available to members. Sorry.
