The Movement

The Movement and Rapids Rising students had a great three-day leadership retreat in early June, filled with fun and learning. The sessions included trainings on leadership, bystander behavior, character building and motivational interviewing. This was the first time The Movement of Deer River High School (DRHS) collaborated with the new Rapids Rising student group of Grand Rapids High School to help the students to become great leaders of our communities. These students have chosen to be drug and alcohol free, like the 86 percent of DRHS students who choose not to drink in a typical month*. These students now have more tools in their pocket to also help their friends choose not to use drugs and alcohol. The students have seen and experienced the support they have from adults and their fellow students to lead this way as Movement and Rapids Rising students, and the fun of the retreat just bonded that together. *Data from 2017 DRHS Student PCN (Positive Community Norms) Survey
